                    <![CDATA[<div></div><p>Today, too many animals are transported under unacceptable conditions on European highways.</p><p>The most important issue is the duration of the transports. Current EU legislation allows for animals to be transported for several days. This has to be changed.                     <![CDATA[<div></div><p><b><font size="3">Number of signatories : 140 - 07/07/2011</font></b></p><p>&#160;</p><p>Date opened : 06/06/2011</p><p>Lapse date : 06/10/2011</p><p>Number of signatories : 140 - 07/07/2011</p><p><br></p><p>__________________________</p><p>A written declaration is a text of a maximum of 200 words on a matter falling within the European Union&#8217;s sphere of activities. </p><p>Written declarations are printed in all the official languages, distributed and entered in a register. </p><p>MEPs can use written declarations to launch or relaunch a debate on a subject that comes within the EU&#8217;s remit.</p><p>A group of up to five MEPs can submit a written declaration by presenting a text to be signed by their colleagues. </p><p>If the declaration is signed by a majority of the MEPs, it is forwarded to the President, who announces it in plenary. </p><p>At the end of the part-session, the declaration is forwarded to the institutions named in the text, together with the names of the signatories. </p><p>It is included in the minutes of the sitting at which it is announced. </p><p>Publication in the minutes closes the procedure.</p><p>Written declarations are printed and posted on a board at the entrance to the Chambers in Strasbourg and Brussels. </p><p>Declarations are also published on Parliament&#8217;s website.</p><p>Declarations lapse after three months in the register if they have not been signed by at least half the MEPs.</p><p><br></p><p>____________________________</p><p>&#160;</p><p>We now need supporters throughout the EU to contact their own regional  MEP&#8217;s and ask that they support Written Declaration 0026/2011 on dog population management in the European Union.</p><p>&#160;</p><p>http://www.europarl.europa.eu/members/public/geoSearch.do</p><p>We now have just a few months to get at LEAST HALF OF ALL MEP&#8217;s across Europe to support this declaration.
